OlahArts is also very pleased at the successful sponsorship of the "Classic
Pizza Summer Concert Series" (located at 3290 Hwy 97 in Redmond, just
north of Wal-Mart).
We kicked off the series with The Dry Canyon Philharmonick , a
very popular local band, on June 12, 2004. This series was open to
all ages with no cover charge.
Throughout the summer we enjoyed The
Allan Byer Band, Dan Chavers, BT Blues, Patrick Lombardi, Katie and Doug
Cavanaugh, Chris Brown, and Back From The Dead. The series culminated on Labor Day weekend with Dress Casual,
standing room only. This event was compounded by the appearance of
Willie Carmichael, whose talents enhanced the evening's fare.
The summer series on the most part was
successful. As runs true to form in Central Oregon, some
performers had a smaller draw than others. As the ambience of
Classic Pizza draws more people, we will be further able to support the
varied and growing quality of fabulous local music by providing a
smoke-free, family-friendly environment in Redmond.
The Dry Canyon Philharmonick
will be performing October 29. Dennis Jakab will be hosting a free
music lesson for all instruments on October 26. This is
theory-oriented for the beginner with hands-on experience and
interactions with others as a open jam develops. If you don't know
where Middle C is, just grab your guitar (or any instrument) and come on
down.
Dean Prescott and Don Hoxie of the
Substitutes continue to host our very successful Open Mic on
Thursday nights. This night is designed to give performers a
15-minute time slot to do their own thing-sing, read poetry, tell jokes,
make a political speech. We are beginning to fill up the time
slots, so come early to sign up. Sign-up can start at 6:30 pm.
With the help of Lou Brochetti and Lee
Barker, Classic Pizza will have a new stage as of October 25.
Future scheduling is occurring as this is written. Band concerts
will be scheduled for Friday nights. Saturday nights may also be
open for bands that would like to perform later in the evening and
play for "cover".
Lou Brochetti will be hosting a new Blues
Jam night. The jam should start in November. Stay posted for
more news.
