HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. SEUSS!
March 2
is the 104th birthday of Dr. Seuss! The Teen's Music Theatre Group,
Children's Music Theatre Group, Inc. and the Tower Theatre Foundation
will honor the renowned author of children's books with 6 performances
of SeussicalTM,
the Broadway musical adventure of Jojo, Horton, Cat in
the Hat and many other Seuss characters. Composers Lynn Ahrens and
Steven Flaherty sum it up beautifully, "Dr. Seuss believes in helping
a friend, in not giving up, in keeping a promise. He believes in the
value and dignity of others, in working to preserve the fragile
sweetness of the natural world, and he believes that peace is the
ultimate ideal, among nations and in every heart. He also believes in
the pure power of the imagination. You will find all these serious
concerns at the heart of Seussical."
42
Central Oregon teens and children will take the stage, the culmination
of the 10 week Winter Session of classes and rehearsals.
Lead roles are being played by Scott Carroll, Horton the
Elephant; Trey Hansen, Jojo; Fernando Romero, Cat in the Hat; Kaleena
Sedgwick, Gertrude; Jimena Romero, Mayzie le Bird; Bailey Lindenmaier,
Mr. Mayor; Hailey Hodgert, Sour Kangaroo; Danika Golombek, Mrs. Mayor;
Parker Daines, General Genghis Kan Schmitz. All the leads have
progressed to the intermediate and advanced levels at
the music theatre company. CMTG offers classes from Beginning I to
Advanced level. The new advanced class is a pre-professional level of
training for committed young music theatre enthusiasts.
The show
is under the artistic and music direction of Nancy Engebretson,
founder of the company. Lisa Ayers is stage director and Mary
Kilpatrick is choreographer. The musical score features Latin, pop,
gospel, Jazz, funk and Blues music, sure to keep young and old
entertained, inspired and amused. Four school outreach performances
at the Tower Theatre are already sold out, bringing
over 1,800 youngsters to experience culture in downtown Bend.
CMTG and TMTG present
three family friendly musicals a year. Their mission is:
fostering talent, exceptional performances and building the
audiences of tomorrow. CMTG is a non profit,
educational 501 (c) 3 organization.
