Aenghus Mac'Aethelstan presented a proclamation of friendship to McMenamins Old St. Francis School of Bend, Oregon, Monday night, December 6, 2004,  as the seanachie (the Messenger who sings the praises, the ancestry and the news of The Clann) from the Caledonian Society recognizing each other's meritorious achievements.   Aenghus and his clan were back Wednesday night in full regalia with pipes, fiddles and other musical instruments for a larger welcome and display of friendship.

PROCLAMATION

By The Caledonian Society of Central Oregon

 

WHEREAS McMenamins, a successful restaurateur and purveyor of fine uisge beatha and brewer of tasty ales; and

 

WHEREAS McMenamins located and opened such a dining establishment and alehouse in beautiful Bend, Deschutes County, Oregon, in November; and

 

WHERAS McMenamins are unaware of The Caledonian Society, such society existing to promote Scottish Heritage, History and Culture; and

 

WHEREAS The Caledonian Society recognize the Irish descent of McMenamins, and thus to be Celtic cousins of The Scots; and

 

WHEREAS Governor Theodore R. Kulongoski of The Great State of Oregon recognized The Official Tartan of the State of Oregon designed by Rob Harding of the Great Clan MacGregor and The Caledonian Society; and

 

WHEREAS Governor Theodore R. Kulongoski declared April 12, Oregon Tartan Day, the only State in the Union to so have; and

 

WHEREAS The Caledonian Society commanded a Grand Parade, Festival and Tartan Ball, duly held on Oregon Tartan Day, April 12 2003; and

 

BE IT RESOLVED, by The Caledonian Society, that McMenamins should recognize The Caledonian Society for these meritorious achievements; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by The Caledonian Society, that McMenamins should be recognized by The Caledonian Society for their meritorious achievements; and

 

NOW THEREFORE, The Seanachie of the Caledonian Society declares McMemanins shall be visited on Wednesday, December 8, in the Year of our Lord 2004, by representatives of the Society, preceded by Bagpipers, Highland Warriors, Musicians and Songsters for the purpose of “A Proclamation”, to duly recognize each others’ meritorious achievements and to give the Governor’s Proclamation and Official Samples of the Official Tartan of the State of Oregon as a gifting, for display for all time.
